On Saturday, the official Twitter account for the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- franchise announced that the fifth arc of Tappei Nagatsuki’s light novel series, titled “Stars that Engrave History,” will be adapted into a manga. This news has caused quite a stir among fans of the franchise, who have been eagerly awaiting new content.
One of the reasons why Re:Zero has become such a popular franchise is its ability to subvert the traditional tropes of the Isekai genre. While most Isekai stories follow a similar formula of a protagonist being transported to a fantasy world, Re:Zero takes a much darker and more complex approach to its storytelling. The series has become known for its intense and often graphic portrayal of violence, as well as its exploration of themes such as trauma, mental health, and the consequences of one’s actions.
Given the complexity of the Re:Zero story, it’s no surprise that fans may be confused about the different adaptations of the same source material. The franchise has a vast universe that includes numerous light novels and manga adaptations. However, the series is becoming increasingly accessible to fans, with Yen Press obtaining the licensing rights for the series and releasing up to volume 17 of the light novels.
In addition to the light novels, there is a manga adaptation that splits the story into distinct chapters, each illustrated by a different artist. The manga includes chapters such as “A Day in the Capital,” “A Week at the Mansion,” “Truth of Zero,” and “The Sanctuary and the Witch of Greed.” Yen Press is in charge of licensing the manga and is currently publishing the final books of “The Sanctuary and the Witch of Greed” chapters, with volume 3 set to come out in December.
The fifth arc of the Re:Zero light novel series, “Stars that Engrave History,” is a continuation of the fourth arc, “The Everlasting Contract,” and is followed by the sixth arc, “The Corridor of Memories.” The arc’s first chapter was initially published in 2014, with the final chapter released in 2015. The arc spans 81 chapters and three interludes in the web novel and has been adapted into five light novel volumes.
The ongoing manga adaptation of the fourth arc, “The Everlasting Contract,” is titled “Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Chapter 4: The Sanctuary and the Witch of Greed,” illustrated by Haruno Atori and Yū Aikawa. Yen Press has released five volumes of Chapter 4, which amounts to the 23rd overall volume of all Re:Zero manga adaptations of the main light novel story. Meanwhile, Chapter 1 and Chapter 3 were adapted by Daichi Matsuse, and Chapter 2 was adapted by Makoto Fugetsu, with all three arcs released by Yen Press.
The fifth arc of the Re:Zero story follows Anastasia, who invites Emilia, Crusch, and Felt Camps to join her for a gathering in Priestella’s Watergate City. However, upon their arrival, Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult emerge and take over the city, compelling Subaru to bring together all the camps to vanquish them and free the city from their malevolent grip.
With the announcement of the manga adaptation of the fifth arc, fans of the franchise can look forward to delving deeper into the complex and captivating world of Re:Zero.
