A creative gamer has successfully recreated the iconic space ranger Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise within the game Starfield. This impressive feat showcases the intricate character creation tools that Bethesda has incorporated into Starfield.
Bethesda is renowned for its detailed character creation systems in games like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Starfield follows suit. Unlike the previous drag-and-morph system in Fallout 4, Starfield simplifies the process with a slider-based system that provides players with precise customization options. The game’s character creator is so sophisticated that it can even replicate animated characters with a high level of realism.
A Reddit user named randomprof1 shared an image of their custom character in Starfield, which remarkably resembles Buzz Lightyear. The character’s physique, slightly puffed-up brown hair, and perfectly proportioned chin capture Buzz Lightyear’s likeness with remarkable accuracy. The character’s stance is reminiscent of Buzz’s iconic pose on promotional materials, gazing towards the stars in readiness for intergalactic adventures. The only thing missing is Buzz’s signature white and green spacesuit. Notably, the game allows the character to be referred to as “Buzz” by their robot companion Vasco.
Buzz Lightyear, a beloved character featured in every Toy Story film, is an ideal space ranger for exploring Starfield’s planets, despite being a toy in most of the movies. The character in the image resembles the version of Buzz Lightyear based on the person the toy was modeled after, rather than the traditional toy version. Buzz Lightyear is universally recognized for his catchphrase, “To infinity and beyond!”
Some Reddit users who viewed the image recognized it immediately as Buzz Lightyear, even without prior knowledge of Starfield’s character creator. However, others noted a resemblance to Syndrome, the antagonist from Pixar’s The Incredibles, and mentioned similarities to Sean Astin, Bruce Campbell, and Jay Leno.
Starfield is currently available in early access and will officially launch on September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
