2024 Marathon Weekend by RunDisney commences at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World launched the eagerly anticipated 2024 runDisney Marathon Weekend, welcoming thousands of enthusiastic runners to the resort. Spanning from January 4 to 7, the event features a diverse lineup of races, including a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon, and the ultimate challenges—the Goofy and Dopey Challenges. This special race weekend pays tribute to Disney’s centennial celebration, incorporating unique entertainment and character meet-and-greets to enhance the magical experience.

Participants gathered on Wednesday morning at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports to collect their race bibs, t-shirts, and immerse themselves in the Health & Fitness Expo, a prelude to the official kickoff on Thursday. The Health & Fitness Expo, open to the general public, offers an opportunity for runners to embrace the race weekend spirit, and for newcomers, it provides insight into the camaraderie and community of runDisney.

This year, Disney introduced a virtual queue system for merchandise purchases on the first day of the Health & Fitness Expo. The innovative system aims to enhance the expo experience, allowing attendees to spend more time enjoying the event and less time waiting in line for merchandise

Adding to the excitement, participants at the expo had the chance to explore products from runDisney’s newest sponsor, Echelon Fitness. Echelon, a global fitness, wellness, and sports leader, entered a multi-year deal last year to support runDisney runners in their fitness and wellness journeys. The partnership involves featuring Echelon’s innovative connected fitness equipment at runDisney races and having a presence at runDisney yoga events, along with interactive demonstrations at runDisney race expos.

The Health & Fitness Expo remained open during specific hours, providing participants and visitors with ample time to explore the offerings:

• January 3: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• January 4: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• January 5: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m
• January 6: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is a highlight in the 2023-2024 runDisney race season, representing the signature event in one of the nation’s largest and most popular race series. All in-person and virtual race events for this weekend are sold out, showcasing the enduring popularity of this annual extravaganza.

In alignment with its commitment to philanthropy, runDisney is making an independent donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in honor of the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Notably, participants’ registrations and involvement will not impact the amount donated by runDisney to LLS.

As the marathon weekend unfolds from January 4 to 8, early road closures are scheduled for guests staying at select Walt Disney World resorts. To ensure an optimal race day experience, participants are encouraged to arrive by 4 a.m., allowing time to enjoy pre-race entertainment and enter their designated Start Group areas. Additionally, runners are advised to adhere to updated rules and guidelines, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.
