To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the iconic anime Cowboy Bebop is receiving a special collector’s edition that includes an array of extras and a brand new retrospective video.
Set to release on April 4, the limited edition Blu-ray box set of Cowboy Bebop comes in a metallic collector’s box and features five interchangeable art cards for the cover. Alongside the complete 26 episodes of the beloved 1998 anime, the set offers over four hours of special features. These include a “lost episode” titled “Session #0,” interviews with the cast and crew, music clips, textless opening and ending themes, as well as audio commentaries featuring director Shinichiro Watanabe, composer Yoko Kanno, and the voice actors from both the original Japanese and English dub.
Cowboy Bebop, created by a talented team including Watanabe, Kanno, Nobumoto, Kawamoto, and Yamane, is widely regarded as one of the greatest series in the anime genre. Blending elements of science fiction, western, and noir, the show follows the adventures of four bounty hunters in a futuristic dystopian setting, accompanied by an acclaimed jazz and blues soundtrack.
The enduring popularity of Cowboy Bebop led to a live-action reboot on Netflix, which premiered in 2021. Despite its faithfulness to the original’s mature tone and musical heritage, the Netflix adaptation fell short of matching the heights of its source material and was canceled after one season. The original anime can currently be streamed on Netflix, Hulu, and Funimation, while the Cowboy Bebop 25th Anniversary Box Set is available for pre-order from The Crunchyroll Store.
