Disney+ is gearing up to bring Pixar’s enchanting animated adventure, “Elemental,” to its streaming platform on September 13, just 89 days after its initial theatrical release. Alongside the film’s digital debut, Disney+ is set to unveil the making-of documentary, “Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental,” offering viewers an insightful look into the creative process behind the film. Additionally, audiences can anticipate the premiere of the Pixar Animation Studios short film titled “Carl’s Date,” featuring the lovable talking dog Dug from the iconic 2009 movie “Up.”

Despite a somewhat sluggish start at the box office, “Elemental” managed to make a triumphant comeback during its theatrical run. Over a span of 11 weeks, the film garnered $153.6 million domestically and an impressive global haul of $480 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

“Elemental” unfolds in the vibrant Element City, a unique metropolis where residents representing Fire, Water, Earth, and Air coexist harmoniously. The narrative introduces viewers to Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis, whose friendship with the amiable and sentimental character Wade, voiced by Mamoudou Athie, challenges her preconceptions about the world they inhabit. The film, directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, and executive produced by Pete Docter, boasts a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh, with the story crafted by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel, and Hsueh.

Accompanying the film’s release on Disney+, “Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental” takes audiences on a fascinating journey. Director Peter Sohn delves into his personal narrative, tracing his parents’ journey from Korea to New York. The documentary explores his father’s former grocery shop in the heart of the Bronx, providing a poignant backdrop for understanding Sohn’s choice to pursue a career in animation rather than joining the family business.

“Carl’s Date,” the Pixar short opening in front of “Elemental” in theaters, adds a delightful touch to the streaming experience. The short finds Carl Fredricksen, the elderly protagonist from “Up,” reluctantly agreeing to go on a date. With no clue about modern dating, Carl’s ever-helpful canine companion Dug steps in to alleviate his pre-date jitters and imparts some tried-and-true tips for making friends – from a dog’s perspective. The short is written and directed by Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins.
