Disney has entrusted a new director with the responsibility of helming “Frozen 3”

Elsa touches the signs in the sky

Jennifer Lee, the director of “Frozen” (2014) and “Frozen II” (2019), has decided to step away from the upcoming film, “Frozen 3.” Despite the massive success of the franchise, including a record-breaking box office run and various spin-offs, Lee has chosen not to return as director for the new installment.

The first two films followed the journey of Elsa and Anna, exploring themes of sisterhood, self-discovery, and the power of love. The conclusion of “Frozen II” tied up the sisters’ story neatly, with Anna becoming the Queen of Arendelle and Elsa assuming her role as the protector of the Enchanted Forest. However, Disney confirmed in February that “Frozen 3” is in development, indicating that there are more stories to be told from the world of Arendelle.

While details about the plot and direction of “Frozen 3” are still under wraps, it has been revealed that another individual will take the reins as director. During an interview at the Annecy Animation Festival, Jennifer Lee shared that the direction of the new film did not originate from her, but from an “incredible person” who has brought a fresh perspective to the project. Despite not directing, Lee will remain involved in an advisory capacity, leveraging her experience and knowledge of the franchise.

As the Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Lee has numerous responsibilities and commitments, making it understandable that she would pass on directing “Frozen 3.” The creative team behind the film will carry the story forward, incorporating their own vision and ideas. Lee expressed her excitement about the project and the joy she finds in collaborating with the talented team of artists who have grown up with the films and are deeply connected to them.

Fans eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the “Frozen” saga, hoping that the new director will capture the same enchantment and magic that made the first two films beloved worldwide. Despite Jennifer Lee’s absence from the director’s chair, her continued involvement in an advisory role ensures that her influence and expertise will still shape the future of the franchise.
