Walt Disney World is transforming into Encanto Disney World as the 2021 movie leaves another impact on the Central Florida Disney Park. Alongside Pixar’s Coco (2017), the film will join a popular attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort. Let’s delve into the details of both films!
Encanto (2021) Encanto offers a unique love story compared to most films from Walt Disney Animation Studios. It centers around a complex family dealing with generational trauma. The official movie description explains, “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ ‘Encanto’ narrates the story of the extraordinary Madrigal family, residing hidden in the Colombian mountains. They live in a magical house within a vibrant town, in a charmed place called Encanto.” The Encanto’s magic blesses every Madrigal child with a special gift, ranging from super strength to healing abilities. The only exception is Mirabel (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz). When she realizes the threat to the Encanto’s magic, Mirabel, the sole ordinary Madrigal, becomes her remarkable family’s last hope. Releasing on November 24, 2021, the film features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and is directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, with Charise Castro Smith as co-director. Bush and Castro Smith are also the screenwriters.
Coco (2017) Coco explores another dimension of family love, reminding us of our connections to our ancestors. The story unfolds during the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). “In Disney/Pixar’s vibrant tale of family, fun, and adventure, a young aspiring musician named Miguel embarks on an extraordinary journey to his ancestors’ magical land,” describes the Pixar movie description. Along the way, he befriends the charming trickster Hector, who helps him uncover the mysteries of his family’s stories and traditions.
Upcoming at Walt Disney World Resort Imagineers at Walt Disney are currently envisioning a new area inspired by Encanto and Coco, which will be located near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom Park. Although this expansion is years away, there will soon be a meet-and-greet location for Mirabel near Cinderella Castle, replacing the former Merida meet-and-greet spot.
On Wednesday, Nexstar reporter Scott Gustin revealed more plans to integrate these diverse films within Disney Parks. Characters from Encanto will adorn Disney Skyliner gondolas that transport guests to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Additionally, buses shuttling guests around Walt Disney World Resort will feature characters from Coco.
