Fans of the Frozen franchise were thrilled to learn that a third installment was in the works. While there hasn’t been a wealth of information released about the film just yet, one intriguing piece of news has surfaced – one of the co-directors of the original films will not be returning for Frozen 3.
In a conversation with The Wrap during this year’s Annecy Animation Festival, Jennifer Lee, the co-director of both Frozen and Frozen 2, disclosed that she will not be helming the third film. Although she couldn’t divulge specifics about the story’s progress, she did mention that the direction they’re taking “did not come from me. It came from an incredible person.” She further expressed her enthusiasm, stating that she’s been “blown away by it and I’m just having a blast with that team.”
While Lee won’t be directing, she will remain involved with the film in an advisory or mentor capacity, ensuring that her imprint on the franchise continues. She explained that she’s enjoying this role because of the shared experiences and deep connection she has with the world of Frozen. Lee emphasized that many artists in the studio grew up with the films and have been part of the journey from the beginning, so they have a profound understanding and ownership of the characters.
However, this isn’t the end of Lee’s directing career. She expressed her desire to return to directing in the future, acknowledging that she has only directed two films so far and believes there will come a time when she’ll know it’s right to step back into the director’s chair. Fans eagerly anticipate more updates on the third installment of this beloved series, and they can stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Frozen news.
