As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to anticipate the animated features coming in 2024. The upcoming slate includes a mix of familiar franchises like Kung Fu Panda 4, Inside Out 2, and Despicable Me 4, alongside adaptations of established children’s IP such as Garfield and Mufasa: The Lion King. However, a notable shift is evident as American studios expand their animated offerings beyond children and family audiences.
For instance, Sony Pictures Animation introduces the R-rated original Fixed, and Warner Bros. presents mature IP adaptations like The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and Netflix’s Ultraman: Rising. Netflix, recognizing the growing demand for animation, leads with seven films on its release slate, challenging traditional studios to reconsider their approach to animated content.
