JoJoLands brings diversity to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

The latest installment in the long-running manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has been making waves for its fresh take on the franchise. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 9 – The JOJOLands has been described as the most diverse part yet, featuring an unconventional protagonist and a modern narrative that tackles serious issues such as police brutality and transgender representation.

Created by Hirohiko Araki in 1987, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has gained a cult following over the years for its unique blend of action, humor, and outlandish characters. Part 9 takes place in the “reboot universe” established after the events of Part 6 – Stone Ocean and is set in Hawaii. The main character, Jodio, is a member of the Joestar family and the nephew of Joseph Joestar, but he is unlike any JoJo that has come before him.

Chapter #1 of The JOJOLands introduces Jodio as a drug dealer and a “gofer” for criminals. His dream is not to save the world or fight for justice, but to become filthy rich. This makes him a departure from previous JoJos, who were often portrayed as paragons of virtue. Furthermore, Jodio’s brother, Dragona, appears to be transgender, making him the first queer main character in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

The JOJOLands doesn’t shy away from real-life issues either. In the first chapter, Jodio and Dragona are harassed by a police officer who abuses his power to intimidate and molest them. This scene addresses the problem of police brutality and highlights the need for accountability in law enforcement.

Another significant departure from previous parts is the first-person narration. Jodio serves as the narrator, giving readers insight into his thoughts and motivations. This new narrative style adds another layer of depth to the story and makes Jodio a more complex character than his predecessors.

Overall, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 9 – The JOJOLands marks a significant evolution for the series. By tackling contemporary issues and introducing a protagonist who doesn’t fit the mold of a typical JoJo, Hirohiko Araki has shown that he is not afraid to take risks and push the boundaries of his own creation. The JOJOLands has only just begun, but it’s already clear that this part is the most diverse and innovative installment yet.
