Josef Newgarden thinks about colleague Scott McLaughlin perhaps of his dearest companion, his “Transport Brother” at the circuit, and the driver he realizes who will race him clean with a success on the line.
That made it significantly more straightforward for Newgarden to pursue down McLaughlin on a restart following a downpour postponement to recover the lead at Overall Innovation Raceway, take his IndyCar-best fifth win of the time, and fix the title race. McLaughlin had started to lead the pack from him on pit methodology right away before the race was halted for downpour and lightning with 43 laps remaining. After a deferral of a little more than 2 hours, the race continued with 36 laps to go and Newgarden required only one to move beyond his pal for the race-winning pass.
McLaughlin completed third for Penske and was trailed by Pato O’Ward of Bolt McLaren SP in fourth. It was McLaughlin’s 6th platform in a season where he has come out on top in two races. He completed second at the last race and sits 6th on a tight title table.
