Xolo Maridueña cautiously discusses Blue Beetle’s role in James Gunn’s DCU plans

In an exclusive interview, Blue Beetle’s lead actor, Xolo Maridueña, cautiously shares intriguing insights into the character’s uncertain yet potentially promising future within the restructured DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

As the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) transforms into the new DC Universe under the guidance of Gunn and Safran, Maridueña offers a sense of optimism regarding Blue Beetle’s return. However, the actor remains uncertain about the nature of Blue Beetle’s reappearance, leaving the possibility open for either a sequel or integration into another facet of the expansive franchise.

The potential for a sequel, tentatively titled “Blue Beetle 2,” raises questions, particularly considering the initial film’s commercial challenges. Despite being the lowest-grossing installment in the 15-movie DCEU, Maridueña’s optimism hints at a hopeful trajectory for the character. The original movie, though not a massive box office success, managed to exceed its production budget, albeit falling short of its estimated break-even point.
