Zack Snyder is done with superheroes, except for a potential Daredevil and Elektra movie

Renowned filmmaker Zack Snyder, best known for his contributions to the superhero genre with films like Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League, recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he is experiencing a decline in excitement for the superhero genre. Despite this, he hinted at potential projects that might reignite his interest if extended the right invitation.

Snyder expressed openness to the idea of joining the revamped DC movie universe led by James Gunn. In particular, he expressed a keen interest in adapting Frank Miller’s iconic graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns. However, Snyder emphasized that his involvement would be contingent on creating a faithful and authentic representation of Miller’s work.

Interestingly, on the Marvel side, Snyder divulged a unique interest in directing a Daredevil and Elektra movie, specifically mentioning an adaptation of Miller’s Elektra Lives Again. This revelation adds an intriguing layer to Snyder’s potential future collaborations, as he contemplates delving into the Marvel cinematic landscape.

Reflecting on the superhero genre’s trajectory, Snyder articulated his perception that it has not evolved over time, describing the experience as being on a metaphorical treadmill. This sentiment underscores his desire for a fresh and innovative approach to storytelling within the genre.

Despite stepping back from traditional superhero narratives, Snyder remains active in the filmmaking realm. His upcoming project, Rebel Moon, a two-part, superhero-less space tale, is set to release its first half with a limited theatrical release on December 15, followed by a debut on Netflix on December 22. The director’s evolving perspective on superhero storytelling and his potential involvement in future projects add an intriguing layer to the ongoing narrative of the superhero film landscape.
