Hunter x Hunter manga to be adapted into a stage play in May 2023


Shueisha has recently announced that Yoshihiro Togashi’s beloved manga series, “Hunter x Hunter,” will be receiving a stage play adaptation in May 2023. Set to take place at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo, the play will run from May 12th to May 28th, giving fans an exciting opportunity to see their favorite characters brought to life on stage.

The stage play is being written and directed by Akira Yamazaki, while Gō Sakabe takes on the task of composing the music. With a talented creative team behind the scenes, fans can expect a captivating theatrical experience that stays true to the essence of the original manga.

Since its debut in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998, “Hunter x Hunter” has captivated readers with its rich storytelling and compelling characters. The manga has gone on to inspire two television anime series, two anime films, and several original video anime titles. Its popularity extends beyond Japan, as Viz Media has released the manga in North America, with the most recent volume being the 37th, published on November 4th. The 36th volume was made available in North America in August 2019.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga has had a tumultuous publication history, frequently going on hiatus due to the author’s health issues. However, after a hiatus starting in November 2018, the manga resumed serialization on October 24th, much to the excitement of fans eagerly awaiting new chapters.

The second television anime adaptation of “Hunter x Hunter” premiered in Japan in 2011, consisting of 148 episodes. The series retold the story from Togashi’s original manga, following the adventures of Gon Freecss as he aspires to become a Hunter and uncover the truth about his father’s abandonment. The anime concluded with its final episode in 2014.
