In an exciting announcement by TOHO, it has been revealed that the first arc of Hirohiko Araki’s widely acclaimed manga, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, will be adapted into a spectacular stage musical titled “Phantom Blood.” This thrilling production is set to make its grand debut at Tokyo’s esteemed Imperial Theater in February 2024, promising an unforgettable theatrical experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Taking the helm as director of the musical is the talented Nei Hasegawa, whose previous work includes the successful stage adaptation of Araki’s “Shikei Shikkōchū Datsugoku Shinkōchū” manga in 2015. Hasegawa’s expertise in bringing manga to life on stage is sure to create a captivating and immersive experience for audiences.

Adding a touch of international flair to the production, renowned French composer Dove Attia has been entrusted with composing the music for “Phantom Blood.” With his vast musical talent and experience, Attia is poised to create a powerful and emotionally charged soundtrack that will complement the story’s intensity and intrigue.

Ensuring that the script captures the essence of Araki’s work, Tsuneyasu Motoyashi, known for his involvement in the popular My Hero Academia stage productions, has been enlisted as the scriptwriter for the musical. Motoyashi’s skill in crafting engaging narratives will undoubtedly bring the characters and their compelling journeys to life on the stage.

Excitement for “Phantom Blood” is not limited to Japan alone, as Viz Media has announced plans to release the English version of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series, including “Phantom Blood.” This means that fans around the world will have the opportunity to delve into the beginning of the arc that started it all, immersing themselves in the captivating world of young Jonathan Joestar and his tumultuous relationship with his adopted brother, Dio. As Viz Media aptly describes, their encounter forever alters Jonathan’s life, as Dio’s smoldering grudge against him fuels a sadistic pleasure in witnessing his suffering. Thus begins a long and complex relationship that will shape the course of their lives.

While fans eagerly anticipate the stage adaptation of “Phantom Blood,” Araki himself continues to expand the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure universe. The latest addition to the series, titled “The JOJOLands,” was launched by Araki in Ultra Jump on February 17. With each new installment, Araki’s masterful storytelling and inventive characters continue to captivate readers, ensuring that the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure saga remains a beloved and enduring phenomenon in the realm of manga and beyond.
