Absent DCEU Films on Netflix
With the closure of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2023, enthusiasts won’t find the entire roster of DCEU films on Netflix.
While numerous DCEU entries are now available for streaming on Netflix, several notable titles remain conspicuously absent. As the DCEU transitions into DC Studios’ new era, exemplified by the imminent release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” fans are turning to streaming platforms to relive their favorite cinematic moments. Given Netflix’s widespread popularity in North America and the recent partnership between the platform and Warner Bros. Discovery, the DCEU franchise gains broader accessibility. However, the absence of certain movies becomes more evident, leaving narrative gaps in the DCEU timeline for viewers.
Currently, only eight DCEU films are available on Netflix: “Man of Steel,” “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad,” “Wonder Woman,” “Justice League,” “Birds of Prey,” “Wonder Woman: 1984,” and “The Suicide Squad.” Here’s where you can find the remaining eight DCEU movies:
- “Aquaman” (2018) remains exclusive to Max, the streaming service of Warner Bros. Discovery.
- “Shazam!” (2019) can be found on Netflix in select European regions, alongside its availability on Max.
- “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” (2021) remains a Max exclusive, following its initial release.
- “Black Adam” (2022) remains exclusive to Max.
- “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” (2023) is another Max exclusive.
- “The Flash” (2023) is likewise exclusive to Max.
- “Blue Beetle” (2023) continues the trend as a Max exclusive.
- “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (2023), scheduled for release soon, is anticipated to follow the same path as its predecessor, remaining exclusive to Max.
The possibility of more DCEU movies joining Netflix hinges on future agreements between the streaming service and Warner Bros. Discovery. While this collaborative effort aims to revitalize interest in the franchise, the absence of key titles poses a significant challenge. Nevertheless, there’s an optimistic outlook that these films will eventually find their way into Netflix’s DCEU catalog, ensuring their continued relevance and accessibility to a wider audience.
