Disney Trims Beloved Christmas Films, Shocks Audience

Disney+ has revolutionized the streaming service landscape since its launch on November 12, 2019, making a significant impact on the entertainment industry. However, recent reports have revealed that two popular Christmas films, Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, have been removed from the Disney+ library.

Both these classic Christmas movies were produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios), which became a part of the Walt Disney Studios following Disney’s acquisition of the company. Home Alone, a beloved Christmas comedy film directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, was released in 1990. The plot follows young Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, who is accidentally left behind when his family goes on a Christmas vacation to Paris.

Home Alone humorously depicts Kevin’s resourcefulness and resilience as he devises a series of traps to outsmart two bungling burglars, Harry and Marv, portrayed by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, who plan to rob his family’s home on Christmas Eve.

While the reasons for the removal of these fan-favorite Christmas films from Disney+ remain unclear, The Direct reported that it might be due to licensing contracts, with the intention of reintroducing them as part of a December promotion. As the Christmas season unfolds, audiences eagerly await the potential return of these beloved classics on the Disney+ platform.
