Exciting news for ‘Sailor Moon Cosmos’ anime: Cast announced, ‘Crystal’ fans thrilled

“Sailor Moon Cosmos part one is set to premiere in a few days, accompanied by a final trailer and important casting updates. This marks the conclusion of the Sailor Moon Crystal saga, with the two-part movies, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos, adapting the ‘Shadow Galactica’ arc from the original manga by Naoko Takeuchi and the ‘Sailor Moon Stars’ arc from the 1990s anime series. The upcoming Sailor Moon Cosmos will delve into the final chapter of the Sailor Senshi’s journey.

Excitingly, the entire Japanese voice cast from Sailor Moon Crystal will be returning for Sailor Moon Cosmos, while Tomoya Takahashi (known for Kill la Kill) directs both films and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (known for Black Clover, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Sailor Moon Eternal) handles the scriptwriting. Yasuharu Takanashi (known for Fairy Tail, Naruto, and Sailor Moon Eternal) will once again compose the film’s music. Additionally, Kazuko Tadano, the character designer of the original 1990s version, will serve as the lead character designer for Sailor Moon Cosmos.

Aside from the confirmed returning cast, previously announced voice actors include Saori Hayami as Taiki/Sailor Star Maker, Marina Inoue as Seiya/Sailor Star Fighter, and Ayane Sakura as Yaten/Sailor Star Healer. However, there have been additional casting announcements for minor characters.

These new cast members include:

  • Sena Koizumi as Sailor Iron Mouse
  • Ayumu Murase as Sailor Aluminum Siren
  • Yōko Hikasa as Sailor Lead Crow
  • Mariya Ise as Sailor Tin Nyanko
  • Haruka Kudō as Sailor Heavy Metal Papillion
  • Shiori Mikami as Sailor Lethe
  • Kanae Itō as Sailor Mnemosyne
  • Fumie Mizusawa as Sailor Phi
  • Yuka Komatsu as Sailor Chi

Notably, Nana Mizuki will portray Princess Kakyu, Megumi Hayashibara will voice Sailor Galaxia, and Kotono Mitsuishi will not only reprise her role as Usagi/Sailor Moon but also voice Chibi Chibi, as she did in the original anime.

Sailor Moon Stars, the next installment, follows Usagi as she enters high school and faces the challenges of adult life, while her partner Mamo-chan goes to the US for medical school. Usagi’s school welcomes three pop stars, and these events intertwine with the fate of the galaxy. The Sailor Stars, mysterious senshi, Chibi Chibi, a little girl with limited speech, and the main antagonist, Sailor Galaxia, are introduced in this final arc. Sailor Moon Cosmos is expected to maintain a faithful adaptation of the story, deviating less from the original manga compared to the 1990s series.

The first part of Sailor Moon Cosmos is scheduled to premiere on June 9th, followed by the release of the second part on June 30th, which coincides with Usagi’s birthday.
