Anime is experiencing a golden age in recent times, with a plethora of unique and exquisitely animated shows spanning various genres. The wide range of content available caters to diverse interests, from those who enjoy watching the tale of ruthless businessmen reborn as young girls and climbing the ranks in the German military during World War I (as seen in “Saga of Tanya the Evil”) to those who relish shows about people who transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac when hugged by the opposite sex (such as “Fruits Basket”). One of the most distinctive shows in this genre is “Fire Force,” which features a team of firefighters dealing with spontaneous combustion in humans. The series, based on Atsushi Ohkubo’s manga, focuses on the protagonist, Shinra Kusakabe, who ignites his feet with fire and joins Special Fire Force Company 8 to fight against Infernals, humans turned into living blazes due to spontaneous combustion.
The second season of “Fire Force” ended in December 2020 and became one of the top five most-watched anime television shows on Amazon Prime Japan. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next season since then, and the official Twitter account of the show confirmed Season 3 on May 16, 2022. However, there is still no official release date for the next season, and the production updates are yet to be made public. Fans had hoped for a July 2023 release, but given the recent news that David Production is working on an adaptation of Yoshifumi Tozuka’s manga “Undead Unluck,” it seems unlikely that the next season of “Fire Force” will release before 2024. Fans have suggested other studios such as Studio Trigger, Bones, Wit Studio, and Studio Pierrot as potential new homes for the series, but many believe David Production should continue producing the show.
The plot of “Fire Force” Season 3 is still unknown, but the second season finale hinted at a bigger battle between Company 8 and the Evangelist. Shinra Kusakabe trains to reach a new level of ability called “The Press of Death” to become stronger and deal with the increasing threats to Company 8. Shinra also establishes an Adolla Link and witnesses the final moments of Company 4’s Captain Hague after his assassination. The story is likely to follow the manga, and Season 3 will entail Shinra fighting against his most challenging opponent so far, Captain Barns of the 1st Brigade. The government is now controlled by the Evangelist, and Company 8 is branded a terrorist group, leading to Captain Obi’s imprisonment. Shinra and his team join forces with the antihero Joker to rescue their captain.
While the official cast list for “Fire Force” Season 3 is yet to be revealed, it’s highly likely that the returning cast and voice actors will feature, including Gakuto Kajiwara and Derick Snow as Shinra Kusakabe.
