MOON KNIGHT Director Diab Not Into Zack Snyder’s DCEU Films

MOON KNIGHT Director Mohamed Diab Says Zack Snyder's DCEU Movies "Didn't Appeal To Him"

In a recent interview, Mohamed Diab, the acclaimed director behind the highly anticipated Marvel Studios series “Moon Knight,” shared his candid thoughts on the recent changes in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), particularly in response to James Gunn’s involvement and his perspective on Zack Snyder’s contributions.

When questioned about James Gunn’s appointment as co-CEO of DC Studios during an interview with Arabicmarvel.com (via The Cosmic Circus), Diab didn’t mince words about his feelings toward the past era of DC movies, commonly referred to as the “SnyderVerse.” While conceding that Snyder’s director’s cut of “Justice League” offered notable improvements over the theatrical release, Diab maintained that Snyder’s overall body of work within the DCEU failed to resonate with him personally.

Diab’s sentiments highlight the polarizing nature of Snyder’s films, which have elicited fervent support from some quarters of the fanbase while drawing criticism from others. The director’s comments position him firmly among those who have reservations about Snyder’s creative vision for the superhero genre.

In contrast, Diab expressed optimism about the future direction of DC Studios under the leadership of James Gunn, whom he regards as a highly talented artist and writer. Diab praised Gunn’s previous work, particularly his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and expressed confidence in Gunn’s ability to deliver compelling content for DC.

However, Diab’s commentary extends beyond his thoughts on DC’s recent developments. He also offered insights into his creative preferences and aspirations for future projects, including his admiration for Batman and his desire to explore a more noir-inspired interpretation of the character. Diab’s vision for Batman reflects a desire to delve deeper into the character’s psychological complexities and tragic backstory, drawing inspiration from previous cinematic iterations while offering a fresh perspective.

As for “Moon Knight,” Diab remained tight-lipped about Marvel Studios’ plans for the series beyond its initial season. However, he expressed faith in Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of the titular character and hinted at the possibility of future installments exploring Marc Spector’s multifaceted identity.
