The popular anime series Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- has announced its highly anticipated third season, much to the excitement of fans. Along with the announcement of the new season, a teaser trailer and visual have also been released, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come. The announcement comes exactly two years after the second season concluded on March 25, 2021, which left fans eagerly waiting for any news on the future of the series.
In addition to the third season, Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- also announced a new game titled Witch’s Re:surrection. The series has been based on the light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki, which has been ongoing on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website since April 2012. The light novel version, which features illustrations by Shin’ichiro Otsuka, began in January 2014 and is also still ongoing, with a total of 32 published volumes and 5 side stories, as well as 8 short story collections.
The anime adaptation of the series was produced by White Fox and premiered in 2016, running for 25 episodes from April to September. It was followed by a second season in 2020, which was split into two parts. The first part aired from July to September 2020, while the second part aired from January to March 2021. The series has also received two OVA episodes, as well as a series of shorts titled Re:Zero − Starting Break Time From Zero and Re:Petit − Starting Life in Another World from Petit, produced by Studio Puyukai.
The story of Re:Zero follows Natsuki Subaru, an ordinary high school student who finds himself transported to another world while on his way home from the convenience store. Lost and confused in this new world, Subaru is saved by a beautiful girl with silver hair who reaches out to him. Determined to repay her for saving him from his despair, Subaru agrees to help the girl find something she’s looking for. As the story progresses, Subaru is faced with numerous challenges, including life-threatening situations and time travel, making for an exciting and unpredictable storyline that has kept fans hooked.
Crunchyroll is the streaming platform for the anime, and they have described the story as follows: “Natsuki Subaru, an ordinary high school student, is on his way home from the convenience store when he finds himself transported to another world. As he’s lost and confused in a new world where he doesn’t even know left from right, the only person to reach out to him was a beautiful girl with silver hair. Determined to repay her somehow for saving him from his own despair, Subaru agrees to help the girl find something she’s looking for.” The upcoming season will be produced by White Fox, the same studio responsible for the first two seasons and the OVA episodes. The voice cast for the main characters is also expected to reprise their roles in the new season.
In addition to the season 3 announcement, a new game titled “Witch’s Re:surrection” was also revealed. The game will be developed by Chime Corporation and published by Spike Chunsoft. It will be available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
