The much-anticipated ninth part of the widely popular manga series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, created by the renowned manga artist Hirohiko Araki, is all set to begin its serialization on February 17, 2023, in Ultra Jump magazine. Shueisha, the publisher of the manga, is going to release it in the March 2023 issue of Ultra Jump. The announcement regarding this exciting news was made in JOJO Magazine 2022 WINTER and the January 2023 issue of Ultra Jump.
The advertisement for the upcoming installment in Ultra Jump features a rough sketch in the background of a boat sailing on the sea and a coast. With the release date finally revealed, fans of the series, who have been eagerly waiting for the new chapter, are overjoyed.
It was first revealed that the ninth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure was under development in Araki’s comment for the last chapter of JoJolion, which was published on August 19, 2021, in the September 2021 issue of Ultra Jump. Initially, it was titled “JOJOLANDS” in all capital letters without the word “The” as a prefix. This part of the series marks the longest hiatus that Araki has taken between the series’ parts, which has lasted for over a year. However, he was not idle during this break and continued to work, drawing several illustrations for JOJO magazine, three chapters of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and a continuation of his novel on how to create manga.
As for the upcoming part of the series, “The JOJOLands,” the details of the storyline remain a mystery. However, it is expected to take place in the same continuity as the seventh and eighth parts of the series, Steel Ball Run and JoJolion. Araki teased in a recent interview that the story would feature Joseph Joestar’s descendants, who appeared in the final two chapters of JoJolion in a flashback, which Araki claims was foreshadowing for Part 9.
Araki had previously mentioned in an interview at the start of Steel Ball Run that he had already planned out the general outlines for each part up to Part 9. He even expressed his desire to depict Morioh in Part 9, which ended up being the setting for Part 8. In March 2016, he stated his desire to write a future story set in Northern Europe or the Scottish Highlands. In October 2019, he suggested that he might feature Italy in the story after a fan suggested it.
Hirohiko Araki is a renowned manga artist hailing from Sendai, the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is his most successful series, which has been in serialization for almost 36 years and is highly regarded internationally. The eighth part of the series concluded in August 2021, with a total of 957 chapters published to date.
Araki switched magazines from Weekly Shonen Jump to Ultra Jump on March 19, 2005, during the 24th chapter of Steel Ball Run. Since then, Ultra Jump has published JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure monthly. The series has an anime adaptation that began in 2012, and recently, up to the sixth part of the series, the adaptation has been released. Additionally, the series has an older OVA adaptation, several video games, and many light novel spin-offs.
