Wish’ Gets Streaming Release Date on Disney+ — Details Inside

Disney’s latest animated series, “Wish,” has at last secured its streaming debut on Disney+ after a lengthy wait. Are you eager to organize your next family movie night? Discover the precise release date for “Wish” on Disney+ below.

Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, “Wish” chronicles the journey of Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose), a 17-year-old residing in the Kingdom of Rosas. Asha stumbles upon a dark secret about Magnifico (voiced by Chris Pine), the malevolent ruler of her realm. Desperate for aid, Asha pleads with the stars, which leads her to a momentous encounter with a mischievous fallen star. The voice cast also includes Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Harvey Guillén, and Evan Peters.

Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaste-Jones served as producers, while songwriters Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice crafted original songs, complemented by Dave Metzger’s original score. Notable tracks featured in “Wish” include “Welcome To Rosas,” “I’m a Star,” “Knowing What I Know Now,” and “A Wish Worth Making.”

Del Vecho explained, “Ariana is Asha. She embodied Asha right from the beginning. And she’s relatable. She’s quirky, and you’ll see the animation, everybody builds on that.” He emphasized Asha’s multifaceted character, praising her intelligence, wit, and courage in standing against injustice.

Regarding Pine’s portrayal of the antagonist, Del Vecho described the challenge of crafting a character both charismatic and villainous. Despite box office figures falling below projections, “Wish” earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Motion Picture in 2024. Critics and audiences diverged in their assessments, with a significant disparity between Rotten Tomatoes’ scores.

“Wish” is set to stream on Disney+ starting Wednesday, April 3, 2024, approximately three months after its theatrical release. Though initially slated for February, its absence from the streamer’s February lineup remained unexplained. To watch “Wish” on Disney+, a subscription is required, with various pricing tiers available. Additionally, the film is accessible for rental or purchase on major video-on-demand platforms and was released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats in March 2024.

While there are no updates on a sequel to “Wish,” its performance on Disney+ may influence future decisions. Despite its underwhelming box office reception, fans can hope for the possibility of Asha’s return in future adventures.
