First look at live-action Shinra in Fire Force stage play

The Fire Force stage play is generating excitement among fans of the manga and anime series. The play’s third installment, entitled Recapture From The Underground, is set to premiere at the Sunshine Theater in Tokyo from Sept. 17 – 25, followed by a run at the Kyoto Theater from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. To promote the upcoming premiere, a new image has been released, showing off the play’s manga-accurate costume for Shinra Kusakabe, the protagonist of the series. The image features actor Hikaru Makishima in character as Shinra, showcasing the flame-kicking hero’s signature outfit.

Hikaru Makishima, who portrays Shinra in the stage adaptation, previously appeared in the 2020 horror-comedy Hachioji Zombies. Meanwhile, Yugi Iwasaki, who is set to play Shinra’s brother Sho Kusakabe, has previously starred in The Prince of Tennis stage adaptations. Other notable cast members include Yu Saotome, known to tokusatsu fans for her appearance in Kamen Rider Heisei Generations: Dr. Pac-Man vs. Ex-Aid & Ghost with Legend Rider movie, as Tamaki Kotatsu, and Yu Imari as Company 8’s captain, Akitaru Obi. Imari previously appeared in the live-action adaptation of the popular otome video game series, Hakuoki.

Fire Force, created by Atsushi Ohkubo, is set in a world that was struck by The Great Cataclysm, an apocalyptic event that caused a massive outburst of fire that killed billions and made much of the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. 250 years later, humanity has begun to recover but is now threatened by the appearance of Infernals, people who have been transformed into fire-spreading monsters. Humanity’s only line of defense against these fiery beasts are the titular Fire Force, a group of pyro-kinetic soldiers who literally fight fire with fire.

Ohkubo, the manga author and artist behind the series, has already achieved great success with his previous hit series, Soul Eater. He published the final chapter of Fire Force last February, and while he previously stated that he planned to retire following the completion of the series, a message posted at the end of the final chapter hinted that Ohkubo may still have plans to produce more work in the future.

Despite the manga concluding, fans of the series can still look forward to the third season of the anime adaptation, which was confirmed to be in production in May but still has no final premiere date. The anime series is produced by David Production, the studio behind the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime and the upcoming Urusei Yatsura reboot. The first two seasons of the show are now available for streaming on Crunchyroll, and fans of the series are eagerly awaiting news on the release of the third season. In the meantime, the upcoming Fire Force stage play offers a new way for fans to experience the series and immerse themselves in the world of the Fire Force.
