Joker in Fire Force: Hero, Villain, or Both?

Atsushi Ohkubo’s “Fire Force” presents an engaging and unique story that subverts the traditional concept of firefighters and their battle against flames, making it a quintessential Shonen anime. However, the series shares some commonalities with other Shonen anime, such as the classic conflict of good versus evil. At first glance, the series appears to have a clear distinction between the good guys and the bad guys, but the introduction of the character Joker complicates matters. Joker is a wild card, and his unnerving smile and tendency to smoke suggest that he’s up to no good. Despite his appearance, Joker’s actions aren’t necessarily villainous. He’s not a hero either, but rather an anti-hero who resides in the gray area between good and evil. While Joker’s initial actions, such as causing building explosions and toying with Shinra, don’t paint him in a positive light, he does provide crucial information to Shinra about his brother, Sho Kusakabe, and the main antagonist, The Evangelist. Joker’s overall goal is to uncover the truth about the world that the empire of Tokyo is hiding, but he’s not afraid to manipulate, involve innocent people, or even kill others to achieve it. His decisions depend solely on what will benefit him in his quest for truth, even if that means working with Shinra or Benimaru. Some fans agree that Joker is an anti-hero, and he can be compared to other anime characters like Sasuke from “Shippuden” and Light Yagami from “Death Note.” Like these characters, Joker started with good intentions but resorts to questionable and disturbing methods to achieve his goals. However, in recent manga events, Joker has shown a willingness to help Shinra, though he remains a chaotic neutral type. As “Fire Force” returns for its upcoming third season, viewers can expect Joker to continue blazing his own path until the very end, making the series a must-watch for fans of Shonen anime

Additionally, the series’ animation and fight scenes are top-notch, making it a visually stunning experience that’s sure to satisfy fans of action-packed anime. With its unique premise, well-developed characters, and intense action, “Fire Force” is a must-watch for any fan of Shonen anime.
